EPCOT is generally more age-appropriate for adults (18 and over) compared to Magic Kingdom, which is often geared more toward younger children. While EPCOT offers a wide variety of attractions, wait times can be long. Without a disability accommodation or purchasing Lightning Lane access (which only applies to a limited number of rides), guests can expect significant waits.

For guests using a wheelchair, wait times ranged from a minimum of 15 minutes to as long as 45 minutes to an hour—even when using expedited access. Considering that most rides last about three minutes, the wait can feel lengthy in comparison to the experience itself. However, if visiting at a less crowded time and no other wheelchair users are waiting, there may be an opportunity to remain on the ride for an additional round. In my case, my parents were able to switch places while I was on the ride, which made it appear as though I had waited again, allowing me to ride twice which is called “Ride-Sharing.” (Bonus for me) Each family member was able to get an opportunity to ride.

Disney offers Disney’s Disability Access Service (DAS), which is valid for 60 days. Registration is required through a live video chat with a Cast Member between 2 and 30 days before your visit, and the guest requesting DAS must be present during the registration.

During the video call, my mom had to hold my phone up to my face so they could capture and verify my image for their records. This photo was then kept on file. Each time I went on a ride, I had to scan in first and verify my identity through facial recognition in order to access the DAS Lightning Lane entrance.

Before riding attractions, my mom had to reserve specific return times for each ride using the Disney World app. Through the app, I was also able to see posted wait times for each attraction, which made it easier to plan our day.

The Disney World app was very convenient. My mom was able to coordinate with our family members and friends so we could go on rides together as a group. This made planning much easier and helped us stay organized throughout the day.

We were also able to order food from restaurants through the app and pick it up after a ride without waiting in long lines. This saved a lot of time and allowed us to enjoy more attractions instead of standing in food lines.

Another perk of the app was that I could purchase items from gift shops directly on my phone. After paying through the app, I would go to the store, and a Cast Member would scan the barcode on my phone to confirm the purchase. I would then receive my items in a bag and be on my way without having to wait in line very long lines to check out.

I was able to enjoy several attractions, including:

  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
  • Journey into Imagination with Figment
  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

I was able to watch a live band called Rock out with Command Performance as they perform British rock from the 1960s through 1990s at the pavilion surrounded by niche shops.

There are many rides available at EPCOT, though some are marked with red triangle warning signs. These indicate that guests with certain physical conditions—such as high blood pressure or neck and back issues—should not ride.

One of the highlights of EPCOT is going around the World Showcase. Traveling through the different country pavilions allows guests to experience cultures, food, music, and architecture from around the world in one place. For someone using a wheelchair, EPCOT was especially enjoyable because the entire park is flat, making it easy to navigate. The pathways were wide enough for comfortable movement, and there were plenty of accessible restrooms throughout. Being able to explore each pavilion without worrying about stairs or steep inclines made the experience more relaxing and immersive.

Overall, EPCOT provides strong accessibility accommodations. While wait times can still be lengthy, the flat layout, wide pathways, accessible facilities, and disability services make it a manageable and enjoyable experience for wheelchair users. The combination of attractions and the opportunity to travel “around the world” in a single day makes EPCOT very entertaining.
